Asunafo drivers commended

Drivers in the Asunafo District of the Brong-Ahafo have been commended for complying with the directive to increase lorry fares by 40 percent.

Complying with the directives are members of the Ghana Private RoadTransport Union (GPRTU) and the Progressive Transport Owners Association (PROTOA).

In separate interviews with the Ghana News Agency at Goaso, the District Chief Executive, Mr George Yaw Boakye and leaders of the two transport organisations commended the drivers for their strict compliance.

The DCE was happy that the arbitrary increases that followed the fuel price hike “have suddenly vanished, giving way to the new fares”.

He commended a committee made up of representatives from the transport organisations and the District Assembly, which fixed fares in the area for satisfying both passengers and transport operators.

Mr Boakye warned drivers who overload their vehicles to desist from the practice since they would be dealt with when caught.

Mr Thomas Yaw Amoah and Mr Osei Kwame, Secretary of GPTRU and PROTOA respectively urged their members to be law abiding to ensure smooth operations.
