Goaso (Brong Ahafo Region), 29, Sept. The Asunafo District Health Management Team has intensified its education programme to prevent and control increasing cases of typhoid fever, malaria and anaemia in the district. Figures collected from the hospital authorities by the Ghana News Agency indicate that the district recorded 666 cases of typhoid fever, and 26,244 cases of malaria between January and August, this year, as against 327 and 1,307 cases of typhoid and malaria respectively during same period last year. The records further indicate that a total of 1,232 anaemic cases were recorded by the end of August, this year, as against 1,084 cases over the same period last year. Dr Peter Asare, medical officer in charge of the Goaso Government Hospital, said he was alarmed at the increasing rate of diseases in the district. He, therefore, advised the people to observe personal and environmental cleanliness to prevent a possible outbreak of any disease. Dr Asare also charged nursing mothers to breast feed their children to prevent anaemia and other related diseases.
