Asta FM in Techiman burnt; transmitter, others reduced to ashes

The management of Techiman-based Asta FM in the Brong Ahafo region is currently counting its loss after fire on Wednesday ravaged the radio station reducing virtually all equipment into ashes.

Kofi Antwi, a staff of the station who was around at the time of the incident, disclosed to mynewsgh.com that the fire started at about 7:30 pm when he had just finished with the evening announcements.

“I had finished reading evening announcement when colleagues drew my attention that there was fire in the building. It is believed to have started from the transmission room before spreading to other areas. We immediately called in the fire service but before they arrived nothing could be saved. They however managed to douse the inferno”, he revealed.

He suspects foul play in the fire but said fire service personnel are yet to give their preliminary findings on the cause of the fire.

Asta FM which operates on 103.9 frequency is one of the few prominent radio stations within the Techiman municipality and has nurtured a few top notch broadcast journalists in the country.
