Association calls for mechanisation of salaries for new teachers

New Edubiase (Ash), July 8, GNA – The Parish Association of Catholic Teachers has called on the Controller and Accountant General to mechanise the salaries of trained teachers who came out of college in 2002.

The Association said it found it unacceptable that teachers who were ”supposed to be on the government’s pay roll continue to draw the same allowances they were collecting while at college.”

These were contained in a communiqu=E9 issued by the New Edubiase branch at the end of its general meeting held at New Edubiase. Mr Siabour Kwame Kirk-Okyere, the Secretary and Mr William Boakye Baafi, the Programme Co-ordinator, signed it.

The communique noted that the delay in the mechanisation of the salaries was putting undue stress on the teachers and appealed to the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service to ensure the strengthening of guidance and counselling in schools.

The communique said this could address the problems of immorality, indiscipline and poor academic performance among pupils.
