Assist Judiciary to bring justice to the people – Minister

Mamponteng (Ash), Sept.14, GNA – Mr Emmanuel Asamoah Owusu-Ansah, Deputy Minister of Justice and Attorney General has called on the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies to assist the Judiciary bring justice to the people.

He said, while the assemblies provided the structures the judicial service would provide the personnel to deliver justice, adding: “if the assemblies sit down unconcerned and expected the service to provide everything, it will take time.”

Mr Owusu Ansah, who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Kwabre West was speaking at the two-day First Ordinary Meeting of the Assembly at Mamponteng on Tuesday.

He said the Local Government and Rural Development Act 462 stated that “it is the responsibility of the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies to provide justice at all levels in the country.” Alhaji Ahmed Akwasi Yeboah, Kwabre District Chief Executive (DCE) urged the Assembly members to complement efforts of Revenue collectors by educating residents to fulfil their tax obligations to raise revenue for development projects.

He announced that the Assembly had received the first quarter of its share of the District’s Assemblies Common Fund for this year and attributed the delay to the late appointments of District Chief Executives.

Alhaji Yeboah said about 136.9 million cedis had been spent by the Government between May-July this year in providing free delivery services to pregnant women in the district in line with the Government’s efforts to improve safe motherhood.

He said the Assembly had sponsored nine nurses and midwives to various training institutions to pursue careers in their fields of speciality, four of them had completed their training and working in the district.
