Assin District heads renew calls for restoration of ‘CAP 30’

Assin-Foso (C/R), Sept. 16, GNA – District heads of departments and members of the Senior Officers’ Association in the Assin District on Monday appealed to the government to restore the pension ordinance, ‘CAP 30’.

They made the call at a forum they organised to deliberate on the benefits of the pension ordinance as against the Social Security Pension Scheme.

The participants said it is improper for the Ghana Armed Forces, the Police Service and the universities to be under the ordinance pension scheme while civil and public servants are kept under the SSNIT pension scheme.

Mr Ernest Osei Otuah, the SSNIT Public Relations Officer for the Western Region, told the participants that the SSNIT Pension Scheme is better and it is in the interest of workers.

”It enables workers to collect a quantum sum of their benefits and still collect monthly allowances until their death.”

He said the increases in allowances of pensioners under the SSNIT Pension Scheme makes its beneficiaries better off than those under the pension ordinance.
