Mr. Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum, Nkoranza South District Chief Executive, has called on Assembly Members in the area to educate the people on their tax obligation, to improve revenue mobilization.
He called on the sub-committee of Finance Administration of the assembly, to support revenue collectors to work effectively.
Addressing the first ordinary session of the Assembly at Nkoranza at the weekend, Mr. Agyekum said, out of the projected revenue of GH¢344,523 for the first quarter of the year, the Assembly realized GH¢59, 775.90, representing 17.4 percent.
He said the Assembly spent GH¢59,770.70 during the period under review, out of the estimated expenditure of GH¢342, 966.50, which represented 17.43 percent of the projected expenditure.
Mr. Agyekum said the Assembly’s revenue situation was “precarious,” and appealed to stakeholders to help improve revenue mobilization to move the area forward since “money is the life blood of every institution.”
On development projects, he said the Assembly had completed 32 projects, which had been handed over to beneficiary communities, and about 41 other projects on education, health, water and sanitation had reached various stages of construction.
Mr. Agyekum said the Assembly had provided some basic schools with furniture.
He commended Government for reshaping and re-gravelling feeder roads in the district, to facilitate economic activities.
Mr. Paul Opoku Nsowah, Presiding Member, called on the Assembly Members to encourage the people to pay their taxes to enable the Assembly to mobilize enough revenue for development.
He called on the District Finance Officer to improve revenue collection to enable the Assembly to generate more revenue for development.**
