Assemblymen to intensify education on health insurance scheme

Senya-Beraku (C/R), Jan. 15, GNA – The Presiding member of the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Assembly, Mr Kwesi Esseku, on Wednesday charged assembly members and leaders of local government structures in the district to intensify public education on the mutual health insurance scheme in their areas of operations.

Addressing an annual end-of-year party for health workers at the Senya-Beraku Community Health Centre, Mr Esseku said the success of the policy to alleviate the sufferings of the poor would depend largely on members of district assemblies, unit committees and urban, town and area councils.

It is therefore incumbent on stakeholders to avail themselves with the guidelines provided under the scheme to enable them to offer the right education on the policy to the people. According to Mr Esseku, the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Assembly at its sitting in December last year, charged its members to place education and the health insurance policy on the priority list. Dr Nii Adjei Adjetey, the District Director of Health Services, asked the communities to embrace the policy because it would help save them from the difficulties most of them encountered under the “cash and carry system”.

The two speakers commended workers of the Senya-Beraku Health Centre for their sustained hard work over the years, and advised them to continue with the same spirit and ensure a high standard of patients/worker relationship to enable them to provide reliable health delivery service.

Mr David Acquah, Medical Assistant in-charge of the centre, thanked the District Directorate of the Service for its encouragement.
