Kumasi, Sept. 1, GNA – Mr Salu Ibrahim, a 43-year-old Assemblyman for Afua Kobi Electoral Area in Kumasi, was at the weekend elected the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for the newly created Old Tafo Constituency.
Mr Salu polled 78 votes out of the 82 votes cast, while Mr A.D.D. Quashie, a self-employed man, got three votes, to win the ticket to contest Election 2004.
Twenty delegates abstained from voting at the congress, supervised by the interim management committee (IMC) of the Old Tafo constituency NDC and the Electoral Commission.
In an address, Mr Salu advised the electorate to vote not for him alone but also for Professor John Evans Atta Mills, the NDC Presidential candidate.
Alhaji Sani Mohammed, Acting Chairman of the IMC, called on all members of the party to bury their differences and rally behind the Parliamentary Candidate.
He said there was a bigger battle ahead of them being the general election and as such they should not waste on petty squabbles but should collectively plan how to wrest power from the NPP. Mr Baba Jamal, Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, commended the delegates for the peaceful and matured manner they conducted the primaries. 1 Sept. 04
