Assemblyman dies escaping flood

The Assembly member for Dwama-Akyemfo Electoral Area in Gomoa West District, Mr Kwasi Quansah, 30, died when a fence wall fell on him at New Botianor in the Ga South Municipality.

Mr Quansah, Secretary to Social Services Sub-committee of the Assembly and a graduate of the University of Cape Coast was in Accra on a personal engagement when the accident occurred.

Witnesses said the deceased arrived at the house of a friend at New Botianor last Monday and while in a room with the friend, water as a result of the previous rain, started seeping into their rooms.

They said in an attempt to move to a safer place to escape the increasing flood, they climbed a fence wall and whilst the friend managed to escape to safety, Quansah found himself trapped and the wall fell on him.

Witnesses said an alarm was raised and he was quickly rushed to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The District Chief Executive, Mr Theophilus Aidoo-Mensah and the Presiding Member, Mr Anthony Eyiah Quansah, have paid a visit to the bereaved family to express their sympathies.

The family said the funeral arrangement would be announced later.
