Assemblyman blames Area council for poor sanitation

Awutu Bawjiase (C/R), March 7, GNA – Mr Sulemana Khalidu, Assemblyman for Akpeshika Electoral Area has expressed concern about the inability of the Bawjiase Area Council to control sanitation at the only place of convenience in the area.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency at Awutu Bawjiase, Mr Khalidu at the weekend, he said some people including children defecate in an uncompleted building near the toilet.

The Assemblyman noted that the toilet was close to the District Assembly (DA) Primary and Kindergarten and expressed fears that the school children were exposed to health hazard if the situation was not reversed.

He suggested that part of the toilet proceeds should be used to hire labourers to keep the place tidy.

Mr Khalidu said many attempts to organise clean-up exercises had not been successful because the Area Council would not support the programme and appealed to the District Assembly to intervene to save the people from a possible epidemic.

He appealed to the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Assembly to construct at least four additional toilets in the area.
