Assemblyman bemoans floods in Kumasi Metropolis

Kumasi, Aug 4, GNA- Mr Francis Ampadu, Assemblyman of Ahenbronum Electoral Area at Old Tafo in Kumasi, has expressed concern about the recent floods in the Kumasi Metropolis and attributed the problem to the construction of houses in waterways. He noted that the disaster resulted in loss of lives and destruction of property and, therefore, appealed to estate developers to ensure that they put up houses at approved places.

Mr Ampadu, who was speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Kumasi on Monday, blamed chiefs, who sold land and personnel of the Survey and Lands Department, who processed papers for the acquisition of lands that were liable to flood to developers. He commended the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) for its efforts to demolish all houses along waterways and expressed the hope that the exercise would be pursued in earnest. The Assemblyman appealed to his colleagues to mobilize their people to undertake development projects to improve their living conditions. Mr Ampadu called on the KMA to ensure that the Assembly’s resources were allocated equally among the various sub-metropolitan assemblies to enable them to initiate more development projects. The Assemblyman stressed the need for his colleagues to attend Assembly meetings regularly to enable them to discuss issues concerning the development of the Metropolis.
