The Assemblyman for Tanoso in the Tano North District of the Bono Ahafo Region, Emmanuel Asare Kumi, 35, and four others, at the weekend met their untimely death when the vehicle they were travelling on crashed at Terchire, near Duayaw Nkwanta.
The other victims were Nana Kwasi, a resident of Sunyani Newtown, Obed Guama, a driver aged 30, Kwame Agyapong, 35, and Kwame Alex 42 a resident of Yamfo.
The Kia Spectra saloon car with registration number AS 6407-10 veered of the road and crashed into a tree stump at Terchire, about 10 minutes drive to Tanoso, shredding the vehicle into pieces and mutilating the bodies of the deceased persons.
Their mutilated bodies had since been deposited at the St John of God Hospital Mortuary at Duayaw Nkwanta.
The fatal accident occurred on Saturday around 4pm at the time the Black Stars were playing their Malawian counterparts.
The deceased were returning from Kumasi to Tanoso, near Sunyani.
DAILY GUIDE gathered that Asare Kumi, who was also the Tano North NPP Constituency Research Officer and one-time personal Assistant to Ernest Akubuor Debrah, incumbent MP of the area, had gone to Kumasi to repair his car.
However the mechanics could not finish the repair works which compelled him to find an alternative means to return to his Tanoso base.
Reports said he was billed to join a Metro Mass Transit bus but due to the long queue at the station, the driver -of the, saloon car popped up there and he and the three others joined it, and met their untimely deaths on the journey to their destinations.
The area which had become an accident-prone spot, registered numerous accidents in recent times.
The youth of Terchire who were incensed about government’s failure to do something about the situation, blocked the road soon after the accident, protesting that they would not allow any vehicle to pass until government constructed speed ramps on that section of the road to save human life.
It took the intervention of the police, who pleaded with the youth to rescind their decision before the roadblocks were removed for free flow of traffic.
