Assembly urged to do more to transform the lives of the people

Mr Kwame Busia, a tutor of the Kumasi Technical Institute (KTI) and former assembly member for Adiembra-Amoawi, has appealed to the Offinso Municipal Assembly to step up its efforts at bringing development to the people.

He described the pace of progress there as “too slow” and said the municipality was suffering from unreliable water supply, poor drainage and dusty roads.

“Clearly, the prevailing conditions are unhelpful to both its image and status as a municipality. The assembly must act together with the Offinso Traditional Council to transform the living conditions”, he told the GNA in an interview.

Mr Busia said there could not be any excuse for non-performance given the huge revenue sources including timber royalties and market tolls.

The municipality boasts of three forest reserves – Nkenkansu, Abofour and Kwapanin. Added to these, are the well patronized and flourishing markets at Kokote, Anyinasuso and Abofour.

He complained about the high rate of social vices among the youth and blamed this on joblessness and non-existence of recreational centres.

A two-storey building constructed by the assembly for a social centre and library has even been converted to a Community Rural Bank.
