Assembly to spend 142 million cedis on Health

The assembly has also voted 42 million cedis to the Dstrict Directorate of Health for the Roll Back Malaria and immunisation programmes.

Mr Akwasi Adu-Poku, the District Chief Executive who announced this at Tepa last Friday during the inauguration of the Tepa Government Hospital as a baby friendly facility, said this showed the importance the assembly attached to health delivery in the district. Mr Adu-Poku asked the people to be wary of the HIV/AIDS and avoid indiscriminate and pre-marital sex.

Miss Agnes Nkumfo, Deputy Director of Nursing Services (Public Health), stressed the need for mothers to exclusively breastfeed their babies for the first six months.

She said exclusive breastfeeding was safe, sound and sustainable for babies.

Mrs Elizabeth Adentwi, the District Director of Health Services, said the hospital was among the 31 baby friendly health facilities in the Ashanti.

Forty-five nursing mothers who were identified as having exclusively breastfed their babies and who regularly attended antenatal and postnatal clinics were presented with items valued at one million cedis each.
