Obuasi, Nov. 6, GNA- The Obuasi Municipal Assembly (OMA) has set up a three-man committee under the Chairmanship of the Municipal Co-Coordinating Director to prepare a proposal that would enable the Assembly to reward teachers in the municipality. The reward is expected to cover all teachers in both the public and private basic schools.
Mr Joseph Kwadwo Boampong, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) who announced this at the general meeting of the assembly at Obuasi, said the reward was in recognition of the excellent performance of the municipality in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for the past three years.
It was also to motivate the teachers to put up their best performance to help the municipality to maintain its first position in the BECE in the subsequent years.
“I hope that these rewards would motivate them to perform even better, and I congratulate both the teachers and pupils”, Mr.Boampong told the assembly members.
He commended the teachers for their high sense of devotion and dedication to duty, stressing that their selflessness had brought honour to the municipality.
The MCE said the municipality had consistently maintained its first position over the last three years and even the results of this year’s examination with a total score of 98 percent would likely place the municipality on top again.
Mr Boampong said when “Ayekoo” Excellence Foundation, an Accra based NGO honoured 40 best schools in the 2006 BECE, eight of the schools came from the municipality with Obuasi St. Philips School placing second.
The MCE announced that to maintain the good performance, especially in the BECE, the assembly was going to enforce its curfew on children to help them be at home from 20:00 hours and study their books. He also urged the Municipal Directorate of Education to come out with proposals on how to improve the performance of public basic schools in the municipality.
