Assembly to rescue Enyan Denkyira SecTech

Ajumako, Aug 31, GNA – The Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam District Assembly is to construct a hostel for boys at the Enyan-Denkyira Secondary/Technical School from its share of the HIPC Fund.

Mr Kenneth Obempong, District Chief Executive (DCE), said this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Ajumako that boys and girls share the same hostel in the school. He said the District Assembly was not aware of the situation at the school but would now take immediate steps to address it to enhance effective teaching and learning.

Mr Obempong assured the students and authorities of the school that the Assembly would take up the challenge and construct a to ease the accommodation problem facing the school. He said the assembly would invite the Headmaster, Mr Alex Amponfi-Duku and see how best to resolve the matter, adding that, students both girls and boys are living in rental houses and said there was the need to solve the problem.

Mr Amponfi-Duku, headmaster stated that the school was going through hard times, adding that, the two story building for girls funded by GETFUND started two years ago had not been completed. He said the school pay six million and five million cedis as rent for girls and boys in the two hostels and appealed to the GETFUND to help complete the project on schedule.

Mr Ampnofi-Duku stated that the school had a 10 year-old single cabin pick-up, which had been sent for repairs, adding that, the school hire commercial vehicles to send science students to Mfantseman Girls for their Chemistry practical.

The Headmaster said there was no accommodation for teachers and stated that some of them commuted from Mankessim, while others were staying in the town making it difficult for them to monitor the students effectively.

Mr Amponfi-Duku stressed that when he took over the school ten years ago the student population stood at 90 but had increased to 580 and said it would increase when school reopened next month.
