Assembly to rescue Enyan Denkyira Sec Tech school

Ajumako, (C/R) Aug. 25, GNA- The Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam District Assembly is to construct a boys’ hostel facility for Enyan-Denkyira Secondary/Technical School from its share of the HIPC fund. Mr. Kenneth Obempong, District Chief Executuve said this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Ajumako in a reaction to complain made by some students that boys and girls were sharing the same hostel facility in the school.

He said the District Assembly was not aware about the situation at the school but now that it has come out, immediate steps would be taken to address it to enhance effective teaching and learning. Mr Obempong assured the students and authorities of the school that the assembly would take up the challenge and construct hostel facility to ease accommodation problem facing the school.

He said the assembly would invite the Headmaster Mr Alex Amponfi-Duku and see how best to resolve the matter, adding that the students, both girls and boys are living in rental houses and there was the need to rescue them from further suffering.

Mr Mmponfi-Duku, the headmaster stated that, the school was going through a terrible situation in terms of accommodation, adding that the two storey building for girls funded by GETFUND, started two years ago has not been completed..

He said the school pay six million and five million cedis as rent for girls and boys on the two hostels and appealed to the GETFUND to help complete the project on schedule.

Mr Ampnofi-Duku stated that the school ha s 10 year old single pick up and it has been sent for repairs, adding that the school hires commercial vehicles to send science students to Mfantseman Girls for their practical in chemistry. The Headmaster said there was no accommodation for teachers, adding that some commute from Mankessim, while others are also staying in town, making it difficult for the teachers to monitor the students effectively. Mr. Amponfi-Duku said that when he took over the school ten years ago the student population stood at 90, but it has increased to 580, adding that this would increase when schools reopen next month.
