Assembly To Reclaim Land

Nsawam (E/R) The Akwapim South District Assembly plans to refill trenches and undulating land in the Densu river valley and its environs as a first step towards a land reclamation programme in the area. The District Chief Executive, Mr Joseph Asare Akotua said this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at the Densu River basin at Nsawam, on the assembly’s efforts to check unauthorised activities of traders and farmers which have degraded the basin.

Mr. Akotua said the programme is also aimed at checking illegal and indiscriminate dumping of refuse and toilet into the river. He warned cattle dealers who have their kraal close to the river to move away from the area and those who send their cattle into the river basin to graze to desist from the practice since they will be arrested and prosecuted.

He said the assembly intends to plant trees, especially, bamboo, in the river basin to help check erosion.
