Assembly to provide policy direction on DMHIS

Winneba (C/R), Jan. 15, GNA – The Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Mutual Health Insurance Scheme (DMHIS) has inaugurated an interim District Health Insurance Assembly to provide the general policy direction of the scheme operations.

The Assembly, which comprises representatives of the urban councils in the district, would among other things put in place a constitution and also appoint Board of Directors for the Scheme. These were contained in a statement issued to the press at Winneba on Friday and signed by Mr Kennedy Kofi Ofosuhene, the Public Relation Officer of the DMHIS.

According to the statement, the Board of Directors shall be responsible for the enforcement of the constitution, approval of budget, render operational and financial accounts to the District Health Insurance Assembly (DHIA).

The statement said that the DMHIS has been able to cover about 90 per cent of the district on its coding and listing of houses as a way to identify the houses within the district and would soon follow up with registration of the individual households.

“This would be followed by collection of premium, which would enable the individuals to access free medical care after six months”, it said.
