Assembly To Assist Needy Students

Sixty brilliant but needy girls of the Afua Kobi Senior Secondary School at Trabuom are to get financial support from the Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma District Assembly this year. Mr. Bright Addai-Mununkum, District Chief Executive, who announced this said the assembly, was waiting for the list of qualified beneficiaries from the school, which is the only girl’s secondary school in the district.

Mr. Addai-Mununkum was addressing separate meetings with the chiefs and people of Foase, Boko and Twedie as part of his one-day working visit to the communities. He said the assembly would release 200,000 cedis each for day students while those in boarding get 400,000 cedis each per year.

The DCE explained that the package was to relieve parents of some of their financial burden in respect of the education of their wards and to encourage more girls to go through second cycle education.

Mr. Addai-Mununkum urged wood carvers and craftsmen in the area to form co-operatives to enable them qualify for assistance from the Poverty Alleviation Fund and the Assembly’s support for small-scale industries.

He said as part of measures to help reduce poverty in the area, the assembly had already provided the Foase community with a gari-processing machine while there were plans for the construction of a market.

At Boko, the DCE entreated unit committees to monitor projects in their communities to ensure that they were properly executed.

Dr Appiah Kubi, Assemblyman for Boko-Twedie, appealed for boreholes and telecommunication facilities.
