About 75 of persons living with disability in the Ellembelle District have received monetary assistance ranging from GHc100 to GH¢400 as part of strategies to enable them to undertake productive ventures and to make them self-reliant.

The assistance was provided from the two per cent District Assembly Common Fund to support the disabled in their education, trade, vocation and medical care.

The District Social Welfare Officer, Mr. Matthew Abizie, said they were

drawn from four zonal groups in the District and expressed hope that the assistance given them would enable them to make a living.

The Branch Chairman for the Federation of the Disabled, Mr. George Mozu, thanked the government and appealed to the District Chief Executive, Mr Daniel Eshun, to ensure that public places were made accessible to them.

Mr Eshun said all Assembly projects had access routes for the disabled and that the government was considering an increase of their two per cent fund allocation.
