Assembly spends ¢4,075.00 on Kalypo, biscuits

Accra, Aug. 13, GNA – Mr Joseph Acquaye Derben, Abura Aseibu Kwamankese District Coordinating Director, on Thursday stated that the Assembly spent a total of GH¢4,075.00, out of the GH¢8,500.00 it received, in providing Kalypo and biscuits for school children in the district.

He said about GH¢1,140.00 was also spent on fuel for a period of nine days for the organization of the Ghana@50 celebrations. Mr Derben, who was testifying before the three-member Presidential Inquiry Commission on the Ghana@50 celebrations, said the expenditure was necessary as it provided the school children the opportunity to exhibit their God-given talents, by participating in programmes. He said a toilet facility that was being constructed at Abura was yet to be completed, as the contractor had not fitted electrical appliances and water closets.

Mr Christopher Anyigba, Assin South District Coordinating Director, was ordered by Mrs Marietta Brew Oppong-Appiah, a member of the Commission, to expunge expenditure on fare and night allowances, burial of a pauper and conveying of spare parts from the memorandum presented to the Commission, since he had explained that the documents were misplaced.

Mr Anyigba could not also explain how a quantity of mathematical sets was distributed to traditional authorities and Assembly members since they were meant for only school children.

Mr Daniel Kobina Koomson, Twifo Hemang Lower Denkyira District Coordinating Director, said his outfit still had a balance of GH¢610.80 in its accounts after all their expenditure.

He said a Jubilee school that was supposed to be constructed had stalled due to lack of funds.

Justice Isaac Duose, Chairman of the Commission, reminded all those appearing before it to speak the truth since they were bonded by oaths. He wondered why all the blame was being put on the former District Chief Executives (DCEs) and gave the assurance that at the appropriate time, all the DCEs implicated would be called to either confirm or deny allegations levelled against them.
