Assembly rehabilitates Obuasi Prison Barracks

Obuasi, Feb 18, GNA – The Obuasi Municipal Assembly (OMA) has spent GH¢1,600.00 to rehabilitate the Obuasi Prisons Barracks to give some co= mfort to the prison officers and their families. The nine blocks of five rooms each with kitchen and toilet for more than= a decade did not see any repairs or painting.

The assembly provided building materials, including cement and paint while the inmates of the local prisons provided labour. Inaugurating the project, Mr John Alexander Kobina Ackon, the Municipal Chief Executive, said the assembly appreciated the challenges facing the prison officers and commended them for hard work. He said Obuasi would demand its fair share of the housing units for security services that were going to be built by the government in partnership with a Korean Company.

Mr Ackon assured the security agencies in the municipality of the assemb= ly’s total support to enhance their operation.

The Ashanti Regional Commander of the Prisons Service, Joseph Kwaw-Yanks= on, said he was happy with the improved conditions at the barracks and praise= d the assembly.

“Accommodation has been one of the problems facing the Service for a lon= g time now but, today, you have demonstrated that we are part of the system= ,” he told the MCE. He advised personnel of the Service to maintain high sense of discipline= in the performance of their duties.
