Assembly members sworn into office at Bawku West District

Zebilla (U/E), March 16, GNA – Forty-nine Assembly Members were on Tuesday inaugurated and sworn into office at the Bawku West District Assembly in Zebilla.

Thirty-four are elected members and 15 are government appointees. The Assembly has only four women and they are government appointees. President John Atta Mills’s inaugural speech was read by a member of the Council of State, The Rev Dr Jacob Ayeebo. He called on the Assembly members to come out with strategies that would enable the Assembly to mobilize adequate revenue at the local level instead of depending solely on the District Assembly Common Fund.

“You must ensure that funds provided by central government as well as which is internally generated are prudently managed”, he said. The District Chief Executive, Mr Moro Adam Anaba, appealed to the assembly members to bury their political differences and let the development of the District be paramount in their deliberations. He also called on them to bring their expertise and experience to bear to promote a balanced approach to community development, stressing, 93this will help consolidate the gains chalked by the immediate past Assembly where members worked hard with unity and purpose”.

The Assembly Members re-elected Mr Moses Aduk-pam as their Presiding Member. He got 34 votes to beat his contestant, Mr Simon Agbango Ayande, who got 16 votes. Mr Aduk-pam won the position for the fourth time. 16 March 11
