Assembly members in Sekondi-Takoradi attend two-day training programme

Sekondi, June 16, GNA – A two-day orientation workshop for members of the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) opened on Wednesday in Sekondi.

It is being organised by the Institute of Local Government Studies in collaboration with the Western Regional Co-ordinating Council and the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development.

It is also being supported by the French Embassy Support Project for Decentralisation and the United States Agency for International Development and Ghana Local Governance and Decentralisation Programme.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency at the workshop, Mr Opoku Boateng, Public Relations Officer of STMA, said the programme was aimed at equipping the assembly members with skills to enhance their performance.

He said orientation and regular training and skills-building for the assembly members was necessary to enhance their performance.

Mr Boateng said it was aimed at providing a platform for the participants to reflect on issues that have been raised in the National Orientation Programme and their roles and effectiveness as assembly members.
