Assembly Members And MPs On Collision Course

Kuntanase (Ash), — 16 June The Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma District Assembly yesterday turned down a request by the Members of Parliament in the district for submission of documents on certain projects to them for study to ascertain the validity of the project costs. The two MPs, Dr Matthew Antwi of the Atwima-Kwanwoma constituency and Mr Adu Poku Gyamfi of Bosomtwe, felt that figures quoted on the projects by the consultants were high and requested for the drawings and bills of quantities for study. Dr Antwi gave a hint of their request when contributing to discussions on projects earmarked for execution under the assembly’s 1997 common fund at the house’s meeting at Kuntanase. He said their request should not be perceived as “witch-hunting” but an attempt to help cut down on the high cost of projects in future.
