Madam Agnes Kusi, Sunyani West District Chief Executive (DCE), has advised Assembly members to seek the well-being of residents in their communities and not their parochial interests.
Madam Kusi gave the advice at the inauguration of the 57-member Assembly, including seven females, three elected and four government appointees on Tuesday at Odumase near Sunyani.
Three of the females were elected, whilst four are part of the 17 government appointees to the Assembly.
She entreated them to assist the Assembly in the formulation and implementation of effective policies and programmes to improve the living conditions of the people.
The DCE emphasized the need for the members to avoid politicization of issues, and rather conduct themselves as dedicated and selfless individuals, by forging ahead in unity with their experiences and knowledge to enhance the realization of the objectives of the Assembly.
Madam Kusi said the Assembly would continue to ensure a cordial atmosphere to promote development.
Mrs. Joan Eyi Kings, a Circuit Court Judge at Fiapre, led the members to swear the three national oaths of allegiance, office and secrecy.
After the inauguration, the Assembly could not elect a Presiding Member (PM) because none of the two contestants could attain the required two-thirds of the total valid votes cast.
Nana Kwaku Asante Nketia Kyenkyenhene, a retired educationist and government appointee who is also the former PM, obtained 29 votes, while Mr. Bernard Oduro Takyi, an entrepreneur and assembly member for Kwatire had 22 votes with six spoiled ballots.
The election, conducted under the ’Yes’ and ‘No’ procedure, was supervised by officials from the District Office of the Electoral Commission.
