Obuasi, May 30, GNA – The Obuasi Municipal Assembly (OMA) has handed over a 615 million-cedi primary school project built at Brahabebome, an Obuasi suburb to the Ghana Education Service (GES). The project funded from the HIPC relief fund, comprised six classrooms, office and store, staff common room and a six-seater vault chamber place of convenience.
Speaking at the ceremony, Nana Asirifi Asare II, Presiding member of the assembly, commended the contractor, Pat Sam Brothers Company Limited based at Obuasi for a good job done.
He said Government was committed to basic education development hence the introduction of the Capitation grant and the NEPAD School Feeding Programme.
Nana Asirifi Asare pledged the assembly’s determination to improve on school infrastructure within the municipality and appealed to the Odikro, Nana Ankomah Ababio and his elders to take active interest in the maintenance of the school block.
Mr Joseph K. Onyinah, Obuasi Municipal Director of Education, thanked the assembly for the project, saying, “The project is going to address the pressure on existing primary schools where primary one class has 156 pupils.”
He said the Directorate was seeking approval to open stream ‘C’ and ‘D’ for the Brahabebome Independence primary school due to the increase in enrolment.
Mr Onyinah appealed to the assembly to allow the Directorate to use the new school block before its official inauguration. The Municipal Director of Education, said the Junior Secondary School (JSS) in the area required additional classrooms, adding, “We need two or three storey school block to solve overcrowding in the Independence Schools.”
Mr Onyinah asked teachers who would work at the new block to ensure the building was properly maintained.
