Assembly donates toward funeral of 34 parishioners

Nkawie (Ash), May 22, GNA – The Atwima-Nwabiagya District Assembly has donated 10 million cedis to support the burial and funeral rites of 34 parishioners of the Abuakwa Roman Catholic Church who died in a motor accident at Akropong on the Kumasi-Sunyani road on May 15. Mr Thomas Ofori-Donkor, the District Chief Executive told the Ghana News Agency at Nkawie that the donation was the assembly’s contribution to support the funeral of the deceased.

He called on all district assemblies, well-meaning persons and other churches to mourn with the bereaved families. Mr Ofori-Donkor appealed to all sympathizers to comport themselves in order to avoid any unpleasant situation at the burial service, slated for May 23.

The 34 parishioners were travelling on a 207 Benz bus from Abuakwa to Akwaboa for a wake keeping for a late Reverend Father of the parish when their vehicle collided head-on with an Inter-City STC bus, resulting in their death.
