Assembly calls for increment in Common Fund

Mampong, (Ash), July 23, GNA – Mr Daniel Appau Ohyeaman, Mampong Municipal Chief Executive, (MCE) has described as “woefully inadequate” their share of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DAF) and appealed for an increment.

He said that the assembly’s receipts from the DACF, ranked among the least in the region.

The MCE said this when the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Kwaku Agyemang-Mensah, interacted with members of the assembly at Asante-Mampong.

The Minister was in the area to inspect on-going development projects and to learn at firsthand about the pressing needs of the people.

The assembly has so far received a total of GH¢187, 128.03 from the Fund this year, a figure, Mr Ohyeaman said fell below their expectation.

He said it was important to make sure that their share of the Fund was commensurate with the assembly’s municipal status.

The MCE noted that Mampong remained one of the areas with the largest concentration of decentralized departments and that was why it should be assisted with the resources to perform.

He spoke of a number of projects being implemented to help improve of the lives of the people and mentioned among these, classroom blocks, accommodation for health workers, an assembly hall and offices.

Dr Agyemang-Mensah urged the assembly members to focus on bringing development to the people by exploring alternative revenue generation sources.

They should also monitor with keen interest programmes and initiatives designed to improve the general welfare of the people.

The Regional Minister later inspected a warehouse facility at the Mampong Central Market funded through the DACF and the Community-based Rural Development Project.
