Assembly assists fishermen affected by rainstorm

Komenda, July 18, GNA – Fifteen canoe fishermen groups in Komenda whose fishing gears were destroyed during a rainstorm were on Thursday presented with 7.5 million cedis by the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem District Assembly. Each group received 500,000 cedis.

Presenting the money to the fishermen, the District Chief Executive, Nana Ato Arthur, repeated government’s readiness to assist victims of such disasters but said it could not bear the full cost of items destroyed. He appealed to those who bought outboard motors last year on credit but could not finish paying for the facilities to do so to enable others to benefit from the scheme.

The chief fisherman of Komenda, Nana Kwamena Atta, thanked the assembly for contributing to the development of fishing. The fishermen expressed their gratitude to the Assembly and appealed for adequate and regular supply of pre-mix fuel for the operation of their canoes.
