Assemblies in Volta directed to clear drains in readiness for the rains

Mr Henry Ametefe, Deputy Volta Regional Minister, on Friday directed Municipal and District Assemblies in the region to clear all drains and gutters of debris to prevent flooding and its associated health problems before the wet season.

Mr Ametefe, formerly Regional Co-ordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), was receiving 18 refuse (skip) trucks from Zoomlion Company limited on behalf of the Municipal and District Assemblies in the Region.

He said, April every year must be devoted to clean-up exercises in the region.

Mr Ametefe urged the Ghana Education Service, Environmental Health and the National Commission on Civic Education to collaborate in undertaking public education on good sanitation habits.

He commended Zoomlion for its vanguard role in the country’s sanitation and environmental management.

Mr Ametefe urged the Municipal and District Assemblies to make maximum use of the trucks and ensure their regular maintenance.

Mr Anthony Adzomani, Volta Regional Director of Zoomlion, said efforts by Zoomlion to confront the country’s sanitation problems must be complemented by the adoption of good sanitation habits by the citizenry.**
