Aspiring National Chairman promises to rejuvenate NPP

Wa, Oct. 01, GNA – Mr Peter Mac Manu, Western Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party on Thursday promised to strengthen the relationship between the Party’s appointees in government and its structures, as part of his agenda to rejuvenate it, if given the mandate to serve as National Chairman.

Such strengthened relations, he noted, would create an avenue for free flow of information on government’s policies and programmes through party activists, to the larger public.

Mr Mac Manu said this, when he briefed newsmen at Wa after a three-day tour of the Upper West Region, during which he interacted with constituency executives of the Party to ask for their mandate during the forthcoming National Congress of the Party slated for November 19, this year.

According to him, the experience he had acquired from starting as a Polling Agent in 1992 and rising through the constituency level to become a two-term Regional Chairman had put him in good stead to lead the party as National Chairman.

“From a very humble beginning, the Party has been growing in the Western Region under my leadership, since 1996 when we won only three seats, which we increased to eight in the 2000 elections and in 2004, we won 12 seats and 56 per cent of the Presidential vote”. ” I hope to bring my rich experience as a successful Regional Chairman to the National level to build on what our previous chairmen accomplished during their tenure,” he added.

Accompanied by Mr Onassis Aminu, Western Regional Youth Organizer of the Party, he said, from the warm reception he received during his tour of the Upper West Region, he was optimistic that delegates from the area would give him their votes at the congress.

The aspiring NPP National Chairman said hard working Party activists needed to be rewarded with material gifts and certificates after every four years, and having done that in the Western Region, he would replicate it at the National level, if given the nod. Mr Mac Manu also promised to use appropriate strategies to energize the women’s wing of the party to attract more women, who were in the majority into its fold.

“I will be a People’s Chairman and not an arm chairman. I will always be on the move to interact with the constituencies to assess their problems, needs and achievements and map out strategies to mobilize more supporters”. Oct. 01, 05
