Aspiring assembly member asks electorate to assess candidates

The electorates have been urged to be guided by the track record of a candidate who offers him or herself for a local assembly election.

Mr Isaac Awuku Asare, an aspiring Assembly Member for Ahenbronmu Electoral Area in the Suhum Municipality, was speaking at a rally to beef up enthusiasm in his campaign for the upcoming district assembly election.

The Electoral Commission has fixed Tuesday, September 1, for the district assembly and unit committee elections.

The aspirant had earlier met his supporters at Akim Oda, in the Birim Central Municipality.

At the Suhum, he urged his fellow contestants to be dedicated and work diligently, as the assemblies and unit committees are crucial to the nation’s local government system.

He said there is the need for the citizenry to overcome apathy towards district level elections by critically accessing candidates and ensuring that capable and competent candidates are elected to serve as assembly and unit committee members.

“Such competent candidates when they become assembly members could help ensure proper use of assembly’s resources,” he said.
