Aspirant says he will empower northern regions economically

Bolgatanga, Dec. 10, GNA – Papa Owusu-Ankomah, one of the presidential aspirants of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has said he would help make the three northern regions to become economically empowered.

He said this when he interacted with the media in Bolgatanga on Saturday after he had met party executives in the region to seek their support in his bid to be elected the presidential candidate of the NPP in Election 2008.

Papa Owusu-Ankomah said he would ensure that the northern regions were linked to countries in the sub-region to pave way for a quick private sector development. This would help bridge the wide gap between the north and south that was created by the British colonial government. Mr. Owusu-Ankomah said he would create a fair quota for women in governance and map out a strategy to encourage more women to take part in governance.

He said under his leadership party executives and opinion leaders would consult in the appointment of District Chief executives. Papa Owusu-Ankomah said there was the need for people to be sensitized to be friendly to security agencies and volunteer information to them.
