Asokwa MP meets Asokwa District Police Command on security

Kumasi, Sept. 21, GNA – Mr Maxwell Kofi Jumah, NPP Member of Parliament (MP) for Asokwa in Kumasi, on Friday met the Asokwa District Police Command and assembly members in the constituency to deliberate on the security situation in the area.

The meeting, the first to be held at the instance of the MP, enabled him to interact with the police and assembly members to identify problems in the area and take stock of the general situation in the constituency.

Some of the problems identified included traffic congestion and the mounting crime wave and strategies to curb it.

Briefing the press after the meeting, Mr Jumah said although the police were doing their best to contain the crime wave in the constituency, there was the need to complement their efforts and called for co-operation between the police and constituents.

He said if the various sectors of society in the constituency played their parts well, there would be no shifting of blame. Chief Superintendent Johnson Owusu-Agyemang, the Asokwa District Police Commander, said issues concerning crime and peace were shared responsibilities between the police and civilians.

When this was well co-ordinated, he said, it could lead everlasting peace in the society and urged chiefs and assembly members to organize the youth into neighbourhood watch committees to complement efforts of the police and other security agencies.
