Kumasi, Sept 10, GNA – The Ashanti region Student’s Representative Council (SRC) has welcomed the education reforms and was particularly happy with the extension of senior secondary education from three years to four years.
In a resolution adopted at the end of a one-week congress in Kumasi, the SRC also lauded the addition of guidance and counselling programme in the senior secondary school curriculum.
It said the inclusion of art related subjects into the basic school curriculum was most welcome and acknowledged the inclusion of kindergarten education into the Free Compulsory Universal Basic Education (FCUBE) as well as the introduction of special apprenticeship training at the junior high school.
The SRC, however, called for priority to be given to the implementation of the reforms to avoid the all too familiar scenario of good ideas failing to be translated into good results. It condemned the increasing spate of terrorism and “gangsterism” in schools and communities and appealed to the law enforcing agencies to, as a matter of urgency, arrest the situation to restore sanity into the society.
“We also entreat our youth to desist from being drawn into the barbaric acts and report such acts that seek to destabilize our peaceful localities to the appropriate authorities”. The SRC appealed to the country’s leaders to eschew evil and corrupt practices and show a high sense of patriotism and discipline in their dealings so as to become shining examples to the future leaders of the country.
