Jamasi (ASH), AUG. 25, – The German government has since 1960 provided 1.78 billion deutsche marks to the Ghana government for development projects through economic co-operation agreement between the two countries. Under German technical and financial assistance, which focuses on structural adjustment, agriculture, rural development, forestry, water supply, transport and education, the German government, in the latter part of last year, committed another 55 million Deutsche Marks to Ghana to strengthen her economic vitality and alleviate poverty. Lieutenant-Colonel G.S. Dietmar Nickle, Defence Attache of the German Embassy, said these at the weekend when he commissioned a new 50.1 million-cedi audiological assessment centre for the Ashanti school for the deaf, the first of its kind in the country at Jamasi. He deputized for the German Ambassador, Mr Christian Nakonz. Col Nickle said his country has also cancelled more than 500 million DM of bilateral debts owed by Ghana as well as ”topping up” the salaries of 16 German experts who are currently employed by local institutions in the field of construction, industry, nutrition, communications, mining and health care.
