Ashanti NPP youth express concern about corruption in government

Kumasi, Aug. 3, GNA – The Youth of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region, have raised concern about reports that some journalists were being influenced with money to “undertake propaganda work for the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).”

Mr Gideon Boako, the Regional Youth Organizer, in a statement issued in Kumasi said if proven to be true, that would only go to demonstrate the deep rooted corruption that had engulfed the Government.

He said they found the alleged bribery scandal leaked by an Accra-based FM Radio Station, deeply troubling.

A Deputy Minister of Information was claimed to have been captured on tape talking about the selection of some journalists who were being paid under the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP) to do the government’s bidding by feeding pure lies to the public ahead of the 2012 general election.

He wondered why a government that prided itself of having done so well should become so desperate to employ crude tactics and deception just for purposes of retaining political power.

Mr Boako noted that while majority of the country’s youth were crying for jobs, the NYEP was diverting huge financial resources to propagate falsehood.

He called on President John Evans Atta Mills to institute immediate probe into the allegations since it bordered on his credibility of fighting corruption.

Mr Boako also urged all anti-corruption campaigners and human rights lawyers to take up the matter and force the Government to open investigations into the matter.

He said the current level of corruption in government was alarming and asked all well-meaning Ghanaians to let their voices of disapproval be heard loudly.
