Ashanti Goldfields Bibiani pays compensation to farmers

The Ashanti Goldfields Bibiani Limited (AGBL) has from January to March this year, paid 624.2 million cedis as compensation to farmers, whose farms were destroyed following its operations in the area. Mr Daniel Owiredu, Managing Director of the company, disclosed this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Bibiani. It is the policy of the Company to give maximum support and encouragement to farmers within the mine’s operational areas, he said. Mr Owiredu said as a step towards providing employment opportunities to people within the area, two farms have been established at Asanwinso and Bibiani with an initial labour force of 40. Mr Thomas Nyarko-Danquah, Administrative Manager of the Company, said the management was happy about the enthusiasm with which the workers at the farms were working.
