Ashaiman to get CHIPS compound

Mr. Ibrahim Baidoo, Ashaiman Municipal Chief Executive, on Monday the cut sod to commence the construction of a single storey Compound Health Improvement Services (CHIPS) compound at Tsui Bloo, a suburb of Ashaiman.

Mr Baidoo said the project is one of the projects initiated by President John Mahama to help improve the healthcare delivery in Ashaiman, indicating that, it would be replicated in other parts of the communities.

He said the purpose of the CHIPS compound is to help fight maternal deaths and also encourage antenatal access.

Mr.Isaac Lamptey, Municipal Engineer, Ashaiman Municipal Assembly, said the project, estimated at GH¢135,349 is expected to be completed in four months time to help improve the healthcare delivery system in the area and surrounding communities, which have not yet benefited from the project.

Mr.Lamptey said the building would have enough rooms to accommodate rural health workers, who would be stationed there.

Dr. Esi Therson-Cofie, Ashaiman Municipal Director of Health Services, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview that the main purpose of the CHIPS compound idea is to bring healthcare delivery to the door steps of the people, and as result, reduce the cost and stress of traveling to far places to seek medical attention.

Dr.Therson-Cofie said the target group for the CHIPS compound is children below 5 years as well as improving maternal care in the community, adding that, it would operate a 24 hour service.

She thanked the regent of Ashaiman for the land and all stakeholders, who have made it possible for the commencement of the projects and assured the residents of quality healthcare delivery in the area.
