Ashaiman Divisional Police arrests number of motor riders

The Ashaiman Divisional Police Command on Tuesday embarked on a special exercise to check the illegal activities of motor riders within the Municipality.

The exercise, which was organised in conjunction with the Buffalo Unit of the Tema Regional Motor, Traffic and Transport Unit was code named “Enough is enough”.

The operation targeted Ashaiman Traffic Light, Community 22, Ashaiman Market and Tema Community Nine.

A statement issued by Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) David Eklu said more than 50 motor bikes have been impounded for offences such as obstruction of public way, riding motor bikes without crash helmets, riding uninsured motor bikes and riding unregistered motor bikes.

The special exercise was undertaken following a number of public complaints about the use of motor bikes in robbery as well as other criminal activities. Some of the riders abandoned their motor bikes on seeing the Police whilst 15 of them were arrested and are being screened for court.

CSP Eklu said the exercise would continue to ensure that riders conform to the laws governing the usage of motor bikes on the roads.
