Ash Town Unity Club of Toronto Inaugurated

The Ash Town Unity Club of Toronto was inaugurated on Saturday, August 30, 2003 at Luna Ballroom in Toronto, Canada. The heavily attended inauguration and fundraising event had all the pomp, pageantry and cultural display befitting the occasion.

The chairman of the club, Mr Osei-Ntansah entreated the members to collectively work to fulfil the aims and goals of providing socio-economic developments in Ashanti New Town, Kumasi. The chairman said that the club has in place, as its first task, a plan to renovate and furnish the Princess Margaret Day Nursery also known as Neighbourhood Centre.

The keynote speaker, Nana Kwame Boahen, Ghana Foreign Services Liaison Officer in Toronto, commended the club for their humanitarian gesture to better the lives of their less fortunate brothers and sisters in Ashanti New Town. He told the revellers that their concern and love for the lives of the residents of Ash Town proves that the Ghanaian tradition of “culture of caring” still exists.

Nana Boahen also implored the members and the invited guests to assist and support the government of Ghana’s efforts to improve the lives of all Ghanaians and also to adhere to constructive criticism. Nana concluded by pleading with the attendees to be law-abiding citizens and to share their God’s giving gifts.
