Asebu grateful for proposed landing beach at Moree

The Omanhene and the youth of Asebu Traditional Area (ATA) on Thursday expressed gratitude to President John Mills for including Moree in the landing beaches project to be constructed in some coastal communities in the country.

Moree, a fishing community, is in the Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese (AAK) district of the Central Region.

A statement release signed by Paapa Abakah, Public Relations Officer of ATA stated that the youth recognized the importance of the Moree landing beach project to the socio-economic growth of the district.

This was because 90% of the 30,000 population of Moree depends on fishing for their livelihood but, lack of safe landing bay at the Moree beach had compelled fishermen to land at Axim, Busua, Sekondi and Elmina.

Stating the reasons for their joy, the statement said Moree, the origin of the fishing industry in Ghana where the title “Farnyi Kweigya” was first coined for its experienced fisherman centuries ago, is currently the only fishing community in the District.

Another reason was that their families were falling apart due to the frequent travelling of the fishermen who are always accompanied by their wives leaving the children alone to fend for themselves.

The Association appealed to the President to as a matter of urgency consider Moree first among the first batch of the communities to benefit when the project takes off to help generate more jobs for the people to enable them cater adequately for their families.
