ASDA Early Learning Centre celebrates anniversary

Accra, Dec. 21, GNA – Mrs Henrietta Okyere-Twum, Programmes Direct= or of Peace FM, has stressed the need for early childhood development centre= s to be promoted in the education of children. She noted that research by educational experts worldwide have show= n that even before children reached the school going age, they could be tau= ght certain basic things in life through music, dance, play and other art for= ms. Mrs Okyere-Twum was speaking at the 10th anniversary celebration o= f the ASDA Early Learning and Development Centre at Adenta near Accra at th= e weekend.

It was under the theme: “Quality Pre-School Education – Key to National Development”. Mrs Okyere-Twum observed that using these art forms to instruct children helped them to sharpen their God-given talents and skills at an early age. She said well-trained teachers could easily tell which of the chil= d’s talents they could concentrate on to guide them as well as identified the= ir weak areas to improve upon them. According to her, pre-school education inculcates into the young a= nd tender minds, the very basic cultural, traditional and moral values of ou= r society.

The Programmes Director stated that once these positive values of behaviour get fixed or ingrained in their fertile minds they would live w= ith it for the rest of their lives.

Mrs Theodora Daaku, Proprietress of the Centre said the school, whi= ch started with only four children, now has a population of 230. She thanked the teachers and the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) f= or their constant support and co-operation. Mrs Daaku assured parents that the school would do their best to me= et their needs. Some teachers were given long service awards at the function. 22 Dec. 09
