Asawase MP to give priority to education

Kumasi, Sept. 7, GNA – Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak, Member of Parliament (MP) for Asawase in the Ashanti Region, has stated that a greater percentage of his share of the MP’s common fund and other resources would be injected into not only improvement of educational facilities, but also assisting brilliant but needy children to attain higher education.

He said his decision stems from the conviction that, once education progresses and most children in his constituency become well-educated, other economic and social developments would automatically be brought to bear on the constituency.

Alhaji Mubarak made the statement at a forum for the MP, chiefs, opinion leaders and unit committees of Adukrom, a suburb of Kumasi on Tuesday.

The forum formed part of his tour of the various communities in his constituency to ascertain the problems of the constituents, and help seek solution to them.

The MP said in line with his resolve to help improve education in the constituency, he had already managed to secure scholarships for 38 students of his constituency attending various second cycle institutions.

The MP solicited the scholarships, which cover boarding and feeding of the beneficiaries, from some Embassies and charitable organisations. Alhaji Mubarak said apart from this, he had pumped 150 million cedis into rehabilitation works of the Presby Primary and JSS blocks at Adukrom.

The MP however, made it clear that all such interventions may come to naught if parents refuse to enroll and invest in their children’s’ education.

Nana Poku Fofi II, Adukromhene commended the MP for being development-oriented and appealed to him to help resolve the problem of parking of articulated vehicles on the school premises.

Mr Lukman Mohammed, Assemblyman for Adukrom Electoral Area, appealed to the constituents to not only to rally round the MP, but to give him genuine support and co-operation to enable him successfully implement his development plans for the area.
