Asantehene Warns Chiefs Over Land Sales

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has warned chiefs to desist from the practice of selling lands indiscriminately for their selfish ends.

He reminded the chiefs that the lands do not belong to the chiefs but that they are holding them in trust for the stools they occupy.

He gave this admonition during a meeting of the Asanteman Council to welcome him from his overseas trip recently.

Otumfuo reiterated that reports of land cases involving chiefs should cease henceforth, since it puts the image of the chieftaincy institution into disrepute.

He urged chiefs to exhibit good sense of leadership and justify the confidence reposed in them by the Asanteman Council.

The Asantehene advised that as leaders a lot of people look up to them and emulate their lifestyle; hence the need to exhibit good leadership qualities wherever they find themselves.

He warned that he will destool any chief found to be engaged in acts that will bring the name of the Asanteman Council, particularly the chieftaincy institution, into disrepute.

Otumfuo appealed to the chiefs to be truthful in all their endeavours since honesty engenders unity and development.

King Osei Tutu appealed to the chiefs to encourage people in their respective traditional areas to donate towards the Otumfuo Education Fund to enhance education, since education is the key to success.
