Asantehene votes

Kumasi, Dec 7, GNA – The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, cast his vote in the Presidential and Parliamentary elections at the Traditional Council Polling Station in the Manhyia Constituency.

At exactly 1125 hours the Asantehene, accompanied by his mother, Asantehemaa, Nana Afua Serwah Kobi Ampem showed up at the polling station among heavy security presence, including the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Kwaku Ayesu Opare-Addo, Major Aggrey Quashie, sector Commander of the Fourth Infantry Brigade.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu after exercising his franchise did not make any comment. There are 749 registered voters at the polling station where he voted and out of this, 294 had cast their ballots after three and half hours of voting.

Voting at the Asante-Bekwai constituency took off peacefully with the electorate casting their votes without any hindrance at all the polling stations.

Mr Gabriel Manu, the Municipal Electoral Officer, told the GNA that a total of 57,381 eligible voters are expected to cast their ballots. He said security had been beefed up to maintain law and order and was optimistic that at the close of the voting no incidence would be recorded.

A total of 1,567 voters out of 7,238 in 10 polling stations in the Atwima Mponua Constituency had voted three hours after voting had opened. Voting was peaceful and orderly.

The story was not different in the Subin Constituency in Kumasi. In six polling stations visited by the GNA the atmosphere was relaxed and the turn out impressive.

These included Calvary Methodist Church, New Apostolic Church, Sports Stadium, Dadiesoaba and Old Internal Revenue Service (IRS). One thousand, five hundred and fifty-nine (1,559) out of 4,962 had already exercised voted as at 1000 hours.
