Asantehene made chancellor of KNUST

The Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu has been appointed as the Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology by the university council. This was announced by the chairman of the university council, Nana Otuo Serebuo when he led the council to the Manhyia palace in Kumasi during an Asanteman council meeting.

The Otumfuo was presented with the statutes of the university, the KNUST emblem and some documents of the university. Nana Otuo Serebuo said the Otumfuo?s appointment took retrospective effect from the 1st of December this year. He said an induction service will be held for the Otumf! uo next year. According to him, the Otumfuo was unanimously appointed by all the council members at a meeting held three weeks ago.

Nana Otuo Serebuo said the Otumfuo was appointed due to his love for education and commitment to the progress and advancement of all Ghanaians. Giving a brief history about the chancellor’s position, Nana Otuo Serebuo said until the council was empowered by the 1992 constitution to appoint a chancellor for the university, the Head of State used to be the automatic chancellor of all the Ghanaian universities. He was happy that the search for the right candidate as the chancellor for KNUST for the past 13 years has finally ended.

The Asantehene expressed his appreciation to the university council for the honour done him and for the trust reposed in him as the chancellor. He called for the support of all to make his work a success. Details of the Otumfuo?s appointment will be discussed between Otumfuo and the university council. Otumfuo?s appointment makes him the over all boss of KNUST. In other news, the Otumfuo has closed the Asanteman council today. The meeting was also used to take stock of the activities of Nananom this year. The Asanteman council will resume on the 16th of January next year.
